Singapore born, Fiji raised, London based. A laid back island girl Jvsmine has been singing for years and now wants to share her story in her own music.
Developingher R&B sound through her personal story, herheritage plays a big part in her lyrics and visuals, “It’s all about moving - I want to move people physically as well as emotionally”.
Jvsmine’s debut single is due for release autumn 2019
Prague born and London bred Michaela Charvatova, known by her stage moniker ‘Maella’ is an alchemist - melding her soothing vocals with driven guitars and experimental productions, she conceptualises a sound that is feverishly emotional and dream like; grunge in attitude, folk in intimacy, and art rock in its delivery.
Prior to her move to London in 2016 to study songwriting at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM), Maella released her debut Americana influenced EP ‘It Is Coming’ under a Prague based independent label. She pays homage to western folk whilst maintaining her 90’s era rock roots that she later came to develop during her time in the English capital. Maella’s 2018 releases ‘Crush Me’ and ‘Because Before’ starkly contrast each other - ‘Crush Me’ is pure unadulterated electricity, while ‘Because Before’, released as part of compilation album ‘Finding Demo 1018’, showcases her softer side. Fusing lush, world influenced soundscapes with a band arrangement that feels organic and minimal, her signature moody vocals sit effortlessly atop swells of vocal harmonies, giving us a glimpse into the universe Maella weaves around her stories and music.
Maella and her band function like a well oiled machine in tightly knit synchronicity, and on stage she captivates, wielding her electric guitar and procuring intricately crafted melodies. The band have made their UK festival debuts at 2000 Trees, ArcTanGent and Y-Not, and have performed at an impressive array of venues including old school favourites such as The Troubadour, scaling all the way to larger stages such as the O2 Shepherds Bush, Camden Assembly, The Islington, and 229 The Venue
Balderdasch is the musical project of 22-year-old Irish musician, Jessica Matthews.
At the age of 18 she moved to London from her hometown of Cork, Ireland so as to fully focus her attention on songwriting. Soon after arriving in London, she began to circuit East London open mics with her lyric centred, folk-leaning music. In recent months
however, Jessica has placed her lyrics into a more hard-hitting, indie and punk-tinged home. This new style was debuted under the moniker ‘Balderdasch’ at 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, for the BIMM London showcase.
Taking inspiration from surrealist literature, contemporary art and her adolescence
in Ireland; Jessica’s music features widely varied and eccentric lyricism, which seamlessly sways from sung to spoken word.
Balderdasch is currently working with some exciting collaborators and hopes to
release a debut EP, which will marry her old and new style together by the end of 2019.
